A Little Bit of Everything: Finding Joy in the Things I Love

A reflection on balancing work, sourdough, recipes, and creative projects—and finding joy in the little things along the way.

A Little Bit of Everything: Finding Joy in the Things I Love

Some days are made up of a little bit of everything. There’s work to get done, a recipe to write down, a sourdough starter to check, and an idea for a new project waiting in the back of my mind.

This picture feels like a snapshot of the life I’m building: practical, creative, and full of small things that bring me joy.

Making room for creativity

After a busy day, I love having something creative to turn to. It might be working on a recipe for the blog, planning an outfit for ClosetMix, or choosing fabric for a sewing project. These ideas may seem small, but they give me something to look forward to and help me make time for the things I enjoy.

I don’t need every idea to become a big project. Sometimes it’s enough to write it down, try something new, or simply enjoy the process.

The comfort of a home kitchen

There’s something special about making food at home. A loaf of sourdough cooling on the counter, a cup of tea beside an open notebook, or a recipe coming together one step at a time can make an ordinary afternoon feel comforting.

My sourdough starter, Charlie, has taught me to be patient. Bread takes time, and every bake gives me something new to notice. Even when a loaf doesn’t turn out exactly as planned, there’s usually a lesson for the next one.

Work and the things I’m building

My work life is practical and organised, with invoices and details that need careful attention. My creative projects give me a different kind of focus. I enjoy bringing those sides together: planning, making lists, solving problems, and turning ideas into something I can share.

Woven Shamrock is one place where those interests meet. It gives me space to share recipes and everyday ideas, while ClosetMix lets me explore my love of clothes and putting outfits together.

Celebrating the everyday

I used to think that meaningful progress had to look like one big achievement. Now I’m learning that it can be quieter than that. It can be feeding Charlie, finishing a work task, writing down a new recipe, or spending a little time on something I love.

Life doesn’t have to fit into one neat box. It can be work, baking, creativity, and rest all mixed together in a way that feels like yours.

And sometimes, the best reminder is simply this: there’s room in an ordinary day for the things that make you feel more like yourself.
